{Nailed or Failed} : A Cast Iron Cake

For our wedding, my husband didn't care too much for the standard "groom's cake." The challenge of picking a theme or concept for a cake that represented him in his entirety was a bit... overwhelming. So, we decided to take an unconventional route and serve a Groom's Dessert - peach cobbler with ice cream! Yum!

For the dessert display, I wanted a presentation that stood out. I had seen this precious imitation "cake" made from iron Dutch ovens on Pinterest. I just had to have this for my wedding! I shared the image and concept with my wedding design associates (a.k.a my mom and dad), and we went on a county wide hunt for cast iron Dutch ovens!

Although we didn't have much luck for Dutch ovens, my Dad found lots of iron cookware in my Gran's old log cabin. Score! By playing with the sizes, we built a tiered stack for the display. We cut eucalyptus from my parent's yard and added some fresh peaches courtesy of the Ellis Family (Ellis Bros. Pecans).

Check out the finished product! I love how it turned out - but, what do you think??
